Men's State League

Season 2013 is well under way as Melville City FC strive for State league success.

Campaign two of the State league division two season has seen Melville FC retain the services of Dan Evans and assistant Terry Goddard. Gavin Brown has been promoted to Senior Assistant Coach and Reserve Team Coach, whilst Danny Pejcinoski and Luke Myburg will take charge of the under 18s. Jason Mehynert has been appointed Goal Keeping coach and will work closely with Senior Goalkeeper Elliot Duncan. Long time club man Clayton Kendall has been awarded the club captaincy after a consistent 2012.

Melville are looking for an improvement of a fourth place finish and a cup quarter final run as the club continues to build impressively from within. Season two has also seen the formation of the Melville Academy (11s-16s) as the club strives to enhance the quality of junior players and coaches alike. Central to this has been the appointment of Evans and Brown to oversee the Academy and the appointment of the experienced Peter Rickers as Director of coaching. Rickers' initial focus will be on enhancing coach education and an internally run junior license has already been completed.

The State league teams have been training since November and the Night series results were again impressive for the second year running. Melville were again drawn to play at Alfred Skeet reserve the home of Armadale City. A 3-1 loss to Division one Gosnells was followed by an 1-0 win over their Premier league outfit and eventual quarter finalists Armadale. Needing a massive win to progress from the group, Melville finished their campaign with a 5-3 win over fellow division two side Forrestfield. Melville finished on 6 points from a possible 9, failing only to progress by goal difference and extending their unbeaten run against Armadale to three games.

Pre-season continues at Troy Park from 6:30-8:30pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as the squads are put through their final paces, in preparation for the league campaign. Melville have received a first round cup bye but are set to play Joondalup City away and in the first league game.
