Melville Masters miss out on world cup - again
This mini world cupis becoming our "white whale". Sunday was probably our best chance of winning for some time.  With a strong team & playing our old friends Colo Colo, representing Chile. Unfortunately, was again not to be.  Chile's center forward who was quite quick & who proved to be a pretty good finisher, got one on one with our keeper twice in the first half  & both times casually slotted home. After his first goal though, Mike B had equalized & the game was still fairly evenly matched. He then scored his second though, followed by a third goal from their right winger, just before half time. Not long before that, we had also lost Dean Sodden to a serious ankle injury, more on that later.

Although 3-1 down at half time, we knew we weren't out of it & after Bryan scored just after half time, whilst Chile of course were employing all of the usual time wasting tactics. (Can't really blame them, we would've done the same) The equalizer never came & then just before the end, their center forward, once again got one on one with the keeper & this time casually dribbled round & slotted home their 4th. But it all gets put into perspective, when you hear that Dean spent 5 hours at RPH & has a confirmed ruptured achilles tendon. He will now spend 8 weeks in plaster & cannot work for 3 months!! Every Masters player (& their wive's) worst nightmare. Well done & thanks again to the Latin American Association of Western Australia for putting another great event.
