Founded in 1969, Melville City FC is the home of football (soccer) in the City of Melville. Our club boasts the largest membership of any club in Western Australia.
The overall aim of the club is to develop player’s skills at all levels while providing a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
We are now Murdoch University Melville Football Club!
Our strategic relationship with Murdoch University is continuing to form. The club has passed the name change at a special general meeting late in 2016, and this has been approved by the Deptartment of Commerce, Football West, the City of Melville and the University.
For the foreseeable future, we will continue to trade under the club name of Melville City Football Club (Incorporated) at least until we take up residence on the new synthetic fields at the University or for the 2018 season.
Administrative changes are underway to support this name change including from a tax and banking perspective. You will see a rebranding exercise and new web site as we move ahead closer to the official cutover.
It has been 5 years in the making, since early conversations with the City about synethic playing surfaces to support our massive growth. The turf is being prepared as you read this, with planned readiness due in late June 2017; with the changing rooms and kiosk expected to be ready in July. This will mean that we will expand our training and playing to Murdoch University as soon as it is complete.
The turf will be top-grade FIFA approved playing surface. Our research with every player who has ever played on such a surface finds it just amazing. True and reliable bounce, great quality, fenced off from animal excrement and well maintained (by the university).

How it will work
The playing and training surface at the University will be very robust, designed to handle heavy use, all year round. The club will ensure that it is fully occuped on the three core training nights: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, as well as games on Saturday (MSL) and Sunday (NPL and assorted other teams).
We will also use it for grading sessions for all elite teams in October (eg MSL and NPL), and it will be used in the pre-season from January. Our plan is pre-season scratch matches, grading and every other possible requirement in the lead up to the season where the City of Melville do not provide access to other grounds for our use.
We already have plans to use adjacent grass surfaces (up to 3), and so with the two synthetic pitches this represents an exciting opportunity for a pre- or post-season carnival that we could host on behalf of the club.
Unlike the ovals at Len Shearer Reserve and Winthrop Park, for the university we will pay by the hour. Effective use is therefore a mandatory management practice we must undertake.
How you can help
Operating this facility is not without its management effort. We would like to form a small subcommittee of players/parents who would like to participate in some way. We haven't envisioned all of the roles required, but have to say that this is the biggest undertaking of the club since inception and able helpers are requested to step forward.
